Sólheimasandur beach, Iceland, 05th June 2015

In 1973 a US Navy DC-3 ran low on fuel and made an emergency landing on Sólheimasandur beach.

All on board survived the landing but it was deemed too expensive to salvage the entire plane so it was stripped of valuable parts and the carcass left on the beach to rot, so this plane is curiously become one of the most famous locations of the beautiful Iceland.

A legend say a farmer later discover the pilots had switched for error to the wrong fuel tank and the other one was full :O
